HabanoA designation which indicates that a cigar is genuinely Cuban. Not all Cuban cigars, however are marked with the "Habano" label.Habanos S.A.The worldwide distribution company based in Havana, Cuba that markets and distributes Cuban cigars internationally. Formerly known as Cubatabaco, the company is jointly owned by the Cuban government and the Franco-Spanish corporation, Altadis S.A.Half-WheelA bundle of 25 or 50 cigars. Cigar rollers usually use a ribbon to tie the cigars they produce into half-wheels.The half-wheels, or “media ruidas” in Spanish, are weighed to ensure that the bundle has the right weight, and that they are neither over- nor under-filled. If the bundle has an incorrect weight, usually the value of the cigars in the bundle is deducted from the worker’s pay. HandThe individual leaves of tobacco hung together after harvest and tied at the top. These hands are piled together to make a bulk for fermentation.Hand-rolledA cigar that is completely rolled by hand. Automated machines may have combined the long filler with the binder, and then the cigar is hand-rolled.See also Totalmente a Mano. HandmadeA cigar that is bunched, bound and wrapped entirely by hand using high-quality wrapper and long filler. No automated machine of any sort was used in the construction of the cigar. All premium cigars are handmade, and hand-rollers generally use more delicate wrapper leaves than machines. HeadThe closed end of the cigar; the end you smoke.Hecho en CubaSpanish for “Made in Cuba”.Homogenized BinderA cigar binder made of chopped tobacco leaf and cellulose. Most often in machine production, it can facilitate the burn of certain cigar products.HotA cigar which has a quick, loose draw. This flaw is caused by the cigar that is under-filled and is usually accompanied by harsh flavors.HumidityThe measure of moisture in the air. The ideal humidity for cigar storage is commonly agreed to be 68 to 72% relative humidity.HumidorA room or wooden box of varying sizes designed to preserve the proper storage and aging of cigars by maintaining an optimal level of relative humidity and temperature.A good humidor should include a hygrometer which is essential to gauge the level of humidity. HygrometerA device that measures the humidity or percentage of moisture in the air.
