Machine-made
A cigar made entirely by machine. Although machine-made cigars are typically less expensive then the handmade variety, this is not necessarily an indication of an inferior quality.

Heavier weight binders and wrappers are generally used and cut filler is used in place of long filler in a machine-made cigar. Often homogenized tobacco is used because of the tension caused from the machinery. Some machine made cigars use pipe tobacco.

Maduro
A dark brown shade of wrapper tobacco leaf, usually thought of as the traditional Cuban cigar color.

The dark brown color can be achieved though sun exposure, a cooking process or a prolonged fermentation. Maduro wrappers are rich and smooth, making for a full flavored and slightly sweet tasting cigar. At present, maduro cigars are very popular.

Colorado Maduro has slightly lighter shade. In Spanish, maduro means "ripe".

See also Colorado Maduro, Wrapper.

Mareva
See Petit Corona.

Media Rueda
See Half-wheel.

Mini Cigarillo
See Cigarillo.

Mixed Filler
The combination of long and short filler in the same cigar.

In handmade cigars, the long filler is used to create the length of the cigar while the short filler is used to build the shape and body.

Moja
The moisturizing of tobacco leaves to prepare them for the cigar rollers.

Mold
A damaging fungus that forms on a cigar when it is improperly maintained.

Mold is bluish-green and stains the cigar wrapper. Its presence usually indicates a humidor that is too warm or has excessive levels of humidity.

Mold is not to be confused with bloom, which appears as a fine white powder and is the result of a cigar’s natural aging process.
