VegaA tobacco plantation.
VeinThe rib of the tobacco leaf. A quality cigar should not be too veined; too prominent veins indicate a defect in wrapper leaf.
VitolaA factory term for a cigar shape. Robusto and corona are examples of vitolas.
VoladoOne of the three filler leaves used in a cigar.
Volado leaves are taken from the bottom part of the plant. They impart light flavours and help the cigar maintain an even burn.
The two other leaves used in rolling a cigar are Ligero and Seco.
Vuelta AbajoA valley in Cuba that is also the finest tobacco growing region in the world.
It is the main source of tobacco for Habanos and the only region that grows all types of leaves. Vuelta Abajo includes growing regions such as Pinar del Rio, San Luis and San Juan y Martinez.
Vuelta ArribaLocated In the eastern part of Cuba, Vuelta Arriba encompasses two separated regions, Remedios and Oriente.
