The founder of Hoyo de Monterrey Cuban cigars, Sr. Jose Gener,
grew tobacco in the Vuelta Abajo village of San Juan y Martinez prior to starting
his brand of cigars in 1865. Hoyo de Monterrey is one of the oldest Cuban cigar brands still in existence.
The handmade Hoyo de Monterrey Cuban cigars are medium in
flavour while the Le Hoyo series, introduced in the 1970s, is a response to
the demand for a richer, stronger tasting cabinet range. The Hoyo Double Corona,
with its distinctive flavor, silky richness and complex taste, is perhaps the
most sought-after Cuban cigar.
Produced in seven factories, all Hoyo de Monterrey Cuban cigars
are made with only the finest Cuban tobacco. The brand name roughly means “the
valley of Monterrey” - a particularly fertile area of land in the Vuelta
Abajo region, southwest of Cuba.
