Year of Foundation: 1875
Tobacco Country: Cuba
Tobacco Procedence: Vuelta Arriba (Pinar del Rio)
Factory: Romeo y Julieta
Founded in 1875 by Alvarez y Garcia, the popularity of the Romeo y
Julieta Cuban cigars took off after it was purchased by Fernandez Rodriguez
in 1903. Since then it has become the most well-known and appreciated of all
the Havana cigar brands.
At one point, the Romeo y Julieta factory produced close to 2000 personalized
cigar bands for their very best customers, including royalty and celebrities.
Romeo y Julieta Cuban cigars are superior-quality cigars.
Over 40 shapes and sizes are produced under this brand. The extremely large
range of cigars, both handmade and machine-made, is medium in flavour - some
are considered as the very best in their size.
Romeo y Julieta is credited with introducing the "Churchill" cigar
shape, in honour of the late British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill.
The labeling on the Romeo y Julieta cigar boxes depicts the famous balcony
scene from Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. Legend has it that this was
one of the cigar-makers’ favorite plays, thus giving name to this popular
and well-respected brand.
